Camp Murray Brings MindGym to Empower Guardsmen with Tools for Mental Resilience

Three new MindGyms will serve the Army Aviation Flight Facility, 194th Wing, and the 81st Infantry Brigade in Tacoma, WA.

Camp Murray, home to both the Washington Army and Air National Guard, continues to make a concerted effort to serve our warfighters with tools for resilience, focus, and recovery. The installation is becoming one of the first joint military sites in the nation to deploy three Lumena MindGyms across its campus in Tacoma, Washington.

This initiative was led by Command Sgt. Maj. (Ret.) Dana Trakel, Prevention Leader for the Washington National Guard, who was instrumental in bringing MindGym to Camp Murray and working closely with Lumena to secure the contract. Trakel partnered with Candy Campbell, Director of Psychological Health for the 194th Wing, and Kevin Robillard of the Army Aviation Flight Facility to advance the effort.

A Model for Cross-Branch Resilience

The three MindGyms will be distributed between the Army Aviation Flight Facility, the 194th Wing, and the 81st Infantry Brigade. They will serve helicopter maintainers, aircrew, and joint personnel across the installation. Each MindGym delivers 10–20-minute immersive light and sound sessions proven to regulate the nervous system and restore focus in minutes. The program offers an evidence-based complement to existing wellness and Human Performance initiatives.

“We’re honored to partner with such a forward-thinking team,” said Brandon Murphy, Chief Revenue Officer of Lumena, Inc. “Dana, Candy, and Kevin share our vision of making MindGym a cornerstone for readiness and recovery across the Guard.”
