Brian Pinkston, MD

Physician & Strategic Advisor

Dr. Brian Pinkston is a physician, aerospace medicine specialist, and former U.S. Air Force flight surgeon whose career has been dedicated to serving military members, aviators, and veterans in some of the world’s most demanding environments. With board certifications in Family Medicine and Aerospace & Occupational Medicine, Dr. Pinkston brings a uniquely integrated perspective on performance, resilience, and whole-person care in high-stakes settings.

Dr. Pinkston began his medical career in the U.S. Air Force after earning his MD from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, where he received the Outstanding Medical Student in Psychiatry Award. Rather than pursue a traditional psychiatry residency, he chose operational medicine — driven by a desire to live and work alongside service members and better understand the lived realities of military life. His career has spanned family medicine, global deployments, and mental health support in austere environments, including Antarctica, where he provided care in the absence of traditional psychiatric infrastructure.

His experience as a flight surgeon and aerospace medicine specialist led to roles of increasing responsibility, including Regional Flight Surgeon for the Federal Aviation Administration, faculty member training NASA flight surgeons at the University of Texas, and Chief Medical Officer for a Veterans Administration facility. Across these roles, he has focused on optimizing cognitive readiness, stress resilience, and performance under pressure.

Following military retirement, Dr. Pinkston’s work with combat-wounded veterans reignited his commitment to advancing mental health care beyond conventional models. He has since pursued doctoral training in transpersonal psychology and psychedelic-assisted therapies, integrating emerging neuromodulation research with established medical science and depth psychology. His philosophy centers on individualized, non-pharmacological approaches that restore emotional connection, resilience, and long-term healing.

As an Advisor to Lumena, Dr. Pinkston provides strategic medical and operational guidance grounded in decades of experience in aviation medicine, high-performance environments, and innovative mental health approaches. His perspective ensures that Lumena’s technologies are aligned with the real-world demands of military, aerospace, and veteran communities — where cognitive clarity, emotional resilience, and readiness are mission-critical.
